📣 Whitley Golf Club – Course Notes 🗓 1st May 2025 ✍️  From Tom, Course Manager

🌤️ Weather & Ground Conditions

March was the driest month in the seven years I’ve been tracking rainfall, with just 6mm recorded. April has followed suit with only 18mm to date—confirming that “April showers” are indeed a myth, as April ranks as our second driest month historically.

As a result, we’ve been irrigating the greens regularly. While beneficial, artificial watering isn’t a perfect substitute for natural rainfall. Warmer temperatures have increased growth rates, and we expect a further jump when rain does arrive. You may also notice a slightly uneven texture on the greens due to poa seeding, visible as a lighter hue across the surface.

⛳ Greens Recovery & Maintenance

  • The greens and approaches have recovered well from recent aeration and topdressing.

  • Each green received approximately 1 tonne of sand, followed by unit sharpening (sand blunts mower blades).

  • A liquid feed was applied this week, which we’ll continue monthly through summer and autumn to support turf health and appearance.

📌 Divot Day – Volunteer Session

🗓 Tuesday 13th May🕑 2:00–3:00pm📍 Meeting point: Clubhouse

Following interest from members, we’re hosting a Divot Day to help repair fairway divots hole by hole. If you’d like to get involved, please email me in advance at:📧 tom@whitleygolfclub.com

👏 Staff Shout-Out

A big thank you to Sam and Josh for their excellent work maintaining the course while I was on holiday.
