đŁÂ Whitley Golf Club â Course Notes đ 1st May 2025 âď¸Â From Tom, Course Manager
đ¤ď¸Â Weather & Ground Conditions
March was the driest month in the seven years Iâve been tracking rainfall, with just 6mm recorded. April has followed suit with only 18mm to dateâconfirming that âApril showersâ are indeed a myth, as April ranks as our second driest month historically.
As a result, weâve been irrigating the greens regularly. While beneficial, artificial watering isnât a perfect substitute for natural rainfall. Warmer temperatures have increased growth rates, and we expect a further jump when rain does arrive. You may also notice a slightly uneven texture on the greens due to poa seeding, visible as a lighter hue across the surface.
âłÂ Greens Recovery & Maintenance
The greens and approaches have recovered well from recent aeration and topdressing.
Each green received approximately 1 tonne of sand, followed by unit sharpening (sand blunts mower blades).
A liquid feed was applied this week, which weâll continue monthly through summer and autumn to support turf health and appearance.
