Dear Whitley Golfer,
It has been some time since we shared the initial concept design for the proposed development of our driving range building. At that time, we intended to follow up swiftly with full drawings ready for planning submission. However, progress was delayed due to a requirement for ecological surveys—specifically for Great Crested Newts and bat activity in and around the proposed development area.
These surveys can only be conducted during the species' active periods—April for newts and May for bats. We expect to have the results of both surveys by the end of May, after which we will submit our planning application to Wiltshire Council.
While the primary focus of our planning application will be the driving range facility, we have also taken the opportunity to develop a broader Facilities Masterplan for the long-term evolution of the club. This Masterplan includes:
A new driving range building with integrated retail space
A reconfigured clubhouse layout
Two new putting greens
A dedicated short game practice area
An expanded car park
Landscaping improvements around the clubhouse and car park
The plan above provides an overview of these proposed developments. This will be on display in the clubhouse with some further information in the coming days.
We want to emphasise that all developments are subject to planning approval, and if granted, will be delivered in phases over the coming years. These improvements represent a significant investment in the club’s future, and while timescales will depend on permissions and funding, we believe it's important to be transparent about our long-term vision.
If planning permission is granted, we aim to begin work on the driving range building later this year. When we have received permission, our architects will prepare building regulation drawings to allow us to engage a contractor for construction.
We will continue to keep you informed as we move through the planning and development process.
Best wishes,
WGC Management Team

Range Ball Card Reader
Our driving range has now been fitted with a new card reader, allowing users to purchase range balls directly from the machine for added convenience. Please note that members who wish to receive their 10% discount will still need to purchase tokens from the clubhouse.
National Grid Land Purchase
You may have noticed wooden stakes marking out an area in the wild grassland to the left of the second hole. This is part of a review by National Grid, who are considering future expansion plans that may involve the compulsory purchase of this section of land.
At this stage, discussions are ongoing and any potential development would be several years away if it does indeed go ahead. We are optimistic that any future plans will not impact the golf course itself and will keep you updated as we receive more information.
