With the dry conditions watering the greens and surrounds has continued to be a key part of our morning routine. The small shower this morning was welcomed, but a few more (overnight!) would be ideal.
With the goal of refining the grasses on the greens and surrounds, we will continue to verticut regularly which was undertaken last week. With strong growing conditions we will attempt to do this fortnightly.
Some greens are suffering from a fungal disease with the 4th, 5th and putting green suffering most. The best way of combating such disease is to create healthy soils to give strong plants which we have worked towards for a number of years. The past 2 years we have also been using disease resistant 'bentgrass' seed when repairing areas on the greens which will help too.
After a visit from our seed supplier rep on Monday it was suggested the greens suffer from a lack of airflow due to hedges and trees in close proximity which can facilitate disease risk, so we need to address these issues in due course.
The winter mats from the course have been placed at the back of the grass tee on the range and the grass tee is now closed. In the next week we will overseed and top dress the range tee to improve the grass coverage.
Best wishes,
Keeper of the Green
